INFO ABOUT THE CHURCH OF CHRISTWe are not the Mormon Church or a denomination. The Church of Christ goal is to restore the New Testament Church that we find in the Bible. We believe that Christianity should be united and not divided. But, this unity should be based on the truth of the Bible. We accept the Bible as God’s infallible word or the authority for all we do as a church or individual Christians. In the seventeenth century a movement swept across Europe which the world called the Reformation. Its goal was to reform or change the existing Catholic Church. Instead of reforming the existing Church, the outcome produced many new churches. In the later part of the eighteenth century, another movement began in the United States. Its goal was much different. It was not to change an existing churches but to return to the Bible and use it as a blueprint in order to restore the first century Church or the New Testament Church found in the Bible. This was the beginning of the Restoration movement. If God’s word was truly inspired, then that means it was truly from God himself. If this word had been preserved for man for all ages, as the Bible claims, then this desire to recreate the original Church by following the pattern found in the Bible was reasonable. So the Restoration movement gained momentum. The Church of Christ as we know it today came from this movement. It is not a sect but a highly respected Church. In the United States, especially in the south, every large city has many congregations and almost every small rural town has a congregation. After World War II the restoration movement spread across the world and to every populated continent. Today, while some other groups with different teachings may use the same name, the main stream Church of Christ can be found all over the world sharing the same restoration goals and Bible teachings. The Church of Christ today has between two and three million members and about 20,000 congregations world wide. Most people find it very interesting that the Church of Christ does not have any earthly headquarters that directs the many congregations. Each individual congregation is autonomous, that is, they are independent. The Bible itself is the guide that directs the church thus Christ is the head. We invite you to come visit us in Budapest.
